Not that impressed with this book. My husband and I switched to eating "Mediterranean" at the beginning of the year and this was my first cookbook which I hoped would give some great new food. Unfortunately, the recipes I have tried from it were not impressive. The hummus was disgusting and I finally threw it all away. Thankfully chickpeas are inexpensive. After I read all the recipes, I had to question just how much of a Mediterranean lifestyle it represented. There aren''t many whole grain recipes, it doesn''t capitalize on vegetables and I don''t think mashed potatoes qualify as Mediterranean. But here''s one of my main complaints; if you look at the skewers on the cover with some kind of white meet, red onions and zucchini? That recipe is not in the book. I have read cover to cover and there is no recipe with that combination of ingredients. False advertising. If you''re not into food and not really committed to the Mediterranean lifestyle, you may be fine. Me and mine? We love great food. I haven''t found any in this book yet.

Looking for simple, realistic, tasty recipes utilizing fresh veggies and fruits? Want some ideas on using that beautiful produce you walk by at The Farmer''s Market on Saturday morning but don''t buy because you have no idea what you will prepare with it? Are you tired of counting calories or carbs? Are you tired of diet books that are filled with dos and don''ts? Enter The Good Life Mediterranean Diet Cookbook. This book is a tried and true healthy way of eating. The recipes are simple to prepare and following the directions for each recipe you are given the best way to serve each entree and how long it will store in fridge or freezer. Most of the recipes are gluten free. Whole grains are utilized although many recipes are completely grain free. Yogurt is the main dairy food used (there''s a recipe for making your own almond milk) although feta and parmesan cheese are used sparingly. Olive oil is used throughout and there''s even a recipe for Brownies made with olive oil, which I plan on trying very soon, however most of he dessert choices are made with fruits and sweetened with small amounts of honey. There''s a great chapter on drinks and smoothies and the breakfast choices are unusual in that they provide a way to start the day with fruits and veggies instead of brain slowing simple sugars. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a way back to enjoying food without guilt!

There is a fair amount text about the Med. diet, what it is, scientific evidence, etc. at the front of the book, followed by many recipes. I perused that info and it seemed sound. I have studied a couple dozen of the recipes, and they have all looked very appetizing and fairly easy to prepare. I just made a list of what I need for several recipes and will pick it all up tomorrow.

Only four stars because there are no photos to go with the recipes in the book, at least not in the kindle version. I will update this after I read more and try some of the recipes.

The nutritional advice is sound, if hackneyed, and the recipes are clearly written and may be helpful for the novice cook. Unfortunately there are many typos, sloppy editing (as when indicating as footnote to a tuna recipe "you could also use tuna") and annoying inaccuracies.

For example her versions of salade Nicoise and of salsa verde are completely wrong. I know these aren''t patented and there can be variations but when you depart this much from the authentic recipe you should just give it a new name.

And as for mayonnaise being "extremely difficult to make without a blender", this is a foolish pronouncement for any cook to utter: a bowl and spoon are all the equipment needed.

Altogether not without interest, but a very amateurish effort.

I have been looking for a good mediterranean cookbook for my kindle for a while to use to plan recipes on my way home from work. This book, although not fully comprehensive is very useful. The book focusses on the health benefits of the mediterranean diet and why people from this region live longer. The information looks very useful, presenting the reaearch in easily understandable and combining it with general health tips from eatibg to approaches in life. I eat and cook mediterranean food for it''s simplicity, taste and enjoyment and that is the part that I am most interested in. The author has gathered recipes from the whole range of countries bordering the mediterranean, from Spain to Greece and Turkey which most books cover. She also presents recipes from the Lebanon and from North African countries like Morocco and Tunisia. There is an excellent selection here giving a good overall representation of the area, although a book yhat covers such a vast and diverse region cannot cover each area comprehensively and has to cherry pick the recipes. The author has also covered a wide range of meal types, mains, sides and deserts etc, and also smoothies and my favourite, speciality dips and condiments. This is a very useful addition to any cooks shelf, particularly if you are new to this type of cooking and are interested in learning more about it''s health benefits.
